Why I Chose Hormone Therapy During Perimenopause — and Why So Man

Perimenopause is one of the most misunderstood — and most dismissively treated — phases of a woman's life. It can begin as early as your mid-30s and last for years before full menopause. And yet, many women walk through it confused, exhausted, and unaware that their symptoms are hormonal.

One of the questions I’m asked most often in my practice is:“Simone, why are YOU on hormones?”

Today, I want to answer that honestly and openly — because I know so many women will see themselves in my story.

My Personal Experience With Perimenopause

I’m about to turn 42, and like countless women in this age group, I started noticing changes that didn’t feel like “normal life.”

For me, that looked like:

  • Mood swings

  • Trouble focusing

  • Brain fog

  • Fatigue

  • Sleep issues

  • Weight gain — even after losing weight with GLP-1 medications

  • Feeling weaker and struggling to build muscle

I didn’t feel like myself. And even as a clinician who specializes in hormone balance, the symptoms were real, disruptive, and frustrating.

A lot of women think perimenopause means hot flashes — but it’s SO much more. Many of my patients come to me describing everything from anxiety to low libido to headaches to sudden exhaustion… without realizing hormones are behind it.

The Hormones I Chose and Why

Right now, I’m taking progesterone + testosterone, and these two alone have made a tremendous impact on how I feel:

✔ Better mood

✔ Clearer thinking

✔ Improved sleep

✔ More energy

✔ Stronger body + better exercise performance

No magic.

No guessing.

Just supporting my body with what it’s beginning to lose.

When I officially enter full menopause, I’ll add estrogen, because that’s when estrogen naturally drops to levels that affect bone health, heart health, metabolism, and overall vitality.

Why Women Choose Hormone Therapy During Perimenopause

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can support women who experience:

  • Mood changes

  • Fatigue

  • Brain fog

  • Sleep disruption

  • Hot flashes or night sweats

  • Headaches

  • Weight gain or slowed metabolism

  • Low libido

  • Joint or muscle pain

  • Heart palpitations

  • Anxiety or irritability

Some women have ALL of these symptoms. Some have only one or two. Some don’t realize their symptoms are hormonal until we test their levels.

The important thing is this:

**You aren’t “crazy.” You aren’t “just stressed.” You aren’t “overreacting.”

You are experiencing hormonal shifts — and they are treatable.**

Hormone Therapy Is Not One-Size-Fits-All

Every woman’s journey is different.

Every hormone plan should be different too.

Some women need only progesterone.

Some need testosterone.

Many benefit from all three: progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen — depending on their stage of menopause and symptoms.

The goal isn’t to erase aging.

The goal is to support your body so you can feel like YOU again.

If You’re Feeling “Off,” You’re Not Alone — and You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck

Perimenopause is a hormone transition, not a life sentence.

Women are often told to “push through,” “accept it,” or “wait it out.”

But you don’t have to suffer through years of symptoms when solutions exist.

You deserve support.

You deserve clarity.

You deserve to feel good again.

And if my story resonates with you, chances are your hormones are trying to tell you something too.
